Holiday park operator, Pontin’s, which was established in 1946, has been placed into administration.
The announcement was made by administrators KPMG, who are hopeful that the company still has a future.
The holiday company, which is renowned for its Bluecoats entertainers, was founded by Fred Pontin, and currently has five holiday parks at Brean Sands, in Somerset; Camber Sands, in Sussex; Pakefield, in Suffolk; Prestatyn Sands, in Denbighshire; and Southport, in Merseyside.
KPMG said it expects that all five parks will continue to operate as normal and no redundancies have been made at this time.
At its peak, it owned more than 30 parks. It was bought by Oceans Park for £46 million two years ago.
The company, like many other leisure operators, has been hit hard by the recession but also faces stiff competition from companies such as Centerparcs, Havens and Butlins.
KPMG issued this statement: “Pontin’s is an iconic British brand which forms the backdrop to thousands of treasured family holiday memories.
“It has unfortunately struggled in the current economic environment but, with some support from new management, we are optimistic that it will be part of thousands of family memories in the years to come.”
