Fewer than 25% see signs of hope, new poll finds

Not since Ronald Reagan was President 30 years ago have so many Americans been so down on the economy.

Fewer than one-fourth of people see signs of improvement in the economy, and two-thirds think the country is moving in the wrong direction, a Bloomberg National Poll found.

The survey, conducted June 17-20, also found that by a 44% to 34% margin, Americans feel they are worse off now than when President Obama took office in January 2009 – when the U.S. was in the throes of the recession.

The percentage of people who believe the country is on the wrong track – 66% – is higher than the 57% from an October 1982 poll, when the unemployment rate was 10.8%.

It gets worse: More than half of those surveyed said their kids will have a lower standard of living than they do.
