Chinese gov’t reveals its defense spending for ’10

Xie Xuren, the Chinese finance minister, said the country spent 99.8 percent of what it had budgeted.

He said the slight shortfall was due to less spending on retired veterans, the China News Service reported.

Other countries, including the United States, have repeatedly criticized China for the lack of transparency over its defense budget as they believe Beijing spends more based on the pace of its military expansion.
